Training involves an Advanced Motorcycle Tutor accompanying a Student (Associate) on their own motorcycle for sessions of approximately 90 minutes to assess, discuss and advise on your riding technique and how to progress. Typically, this will involve up to 12 hours (8 x 90 minute sessions) of tuition to attain the RoSPA Advanced Motorcycle Test standard.
There is a waiting list for training, and interested parties can apply to be placed on the waiting list.
When a Tutor is available, the Associate will be contacted by RoSPA GAM and invited to apply for Motorcycle Associate Membership of the RoSPA GAM and associated Advanced Motorcycle Training.
As a New Associate you should be aware of the following conditions:
- RoSPA GAM expects a course to proceed with a tutored ride on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
- The time between tutored sessions must be such that momentum is not lost on course progress and that the course does not extend beyond a twenty (20) week period.
- The commencement of this defined period will be calculated from the date of the first tutored ride.
- Tutored rides will terminate at the end of this defined period.
- Tutored rides will also halt if, during the course, three arranged rides are cancelled.
If you are affected by conditions 4 and 5 above are welcome to discuss circumstances and the issues with the designated Tutor as soon as possible.
In the event that a training course is interrupted, all efforts will be made by the RoSPA GAM to recommence training at a mutually suitable time.
It is expected that Associates are willing to rendezvous at a venue convenient to the Motorcycle Tutor and honour pre-arranged meeting times, giving maximum notice in the event of cancellation.
It should also be understood that the Associate is expected to read the course literature, study the advised publications and to practice their riding technique between tutored sessions.
Your Tutor will advise you regarding your test readiness, at this time it is the responsibility of the Associate to contact RoSPA to pay the Advanced Motorcycle Test and the Local Examiner will contact you in due course to arrange a mutual time and place for your test.
Payment for this test is not taken at the start of the RoSPA GAM Advanced Motorcycle training as there is no guarantee that that an Associate will reach test standard.
On completion of the RoSPA Advanced Motorcycle Test, if you have reached the required standard, you will be awarded a Bronze, Silver or Gold level pass. A test report and certificate will be issued by email within two weeks of your test date.
You will automatically become a subscribing member of RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders (RoADAR) and your first year’s Membership is included within the test fee. Your free year will start from the date of your test application.
RoADAR Membership is then subject to an annual fee of £40 which will become payable one year after your test application.
As a RoADAR Member you will be asked to re-test every three years, the cost of the re-tests is included in the yearly subscription fee. You will also receive subscription to the bi-monthly Care on The Road Magazine and access to the RoADAR Benefits Platform including discounts on insurance, travel, days out, holidays and much more.
Active or previous licence endorsements do not preclude applicants from Motorcycle Associate membership but must be declared to RoSPA HQ when joining the national organisation after passing the RoSPA Advanced Motorcycle Test.
